Very little is actually known about Tagalog's history. Its earliest history is only  known from the Spanish conquest of the Philippines in the 16th century. As you know Tagalog means "river dweller," and it was named Tagalog because Tagalog-speakers settled near rivers and streams, according to research. The earliest document found in Tagalog is the Doctrina Cristiana which was from 1593.
