The Philippines has about 175 dialects of language.However, Tagalog is the official language, also called Filipino (Pilipino), with over 24 million speakers as a first language and 64 million speakers as a second language. 57 million of those speakers are in the Philippines. Its name means "River Dweller,"and the two parts of the name are "taga" and "ilog." Taga meaning "native of," and ilog meaning "River" Not all of the Philippines speaks Tagalog most of the speaker come from Luzon. It is also the fourth most spoken language in America according to 2007 census. The picture to the left shows the languages native to each area of the Philippines and as you can see red represents Tagalog.
